Foundation in Computer Science – UNITEN

Student who has completed Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), O-Level, IGCSE, UEC, or other equivalent qualifications recognised by Government of Malaysia. Keen interest in Computing field of study and want to pursue any of these degree programmes:

  • Bachelor of Computer Science (Systems and Networking) (Hons)
  •  Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering) (Hons)
  • Bachelor of Computer Science (Cyber Security) (Hons).

This syllabus has been designed to meet the requirements of professional bodies and industries while giving students the competitive edge. Emphasis is on the application of knowledge through teamwork, case studies, simulations and real life projects.

The Department of Foundation and Diploma Studies (CCI-FDS) offers Foundation in Computer Science (FCS), Foundation in Information Technology (FIT) and Diploma in Computer Science (DCS) programmes. The department is equipped with sufficient computers and physics laboratories. All the laboratories are air-conditioned and equipped with the state-of-the-art equipment. Laboratory classes are conducted either by lecturers themselves or tutors, who are closely supervised by the lecturers.

The Foundation in Computer Science will equip the students with the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them to successfully pursue their respective degree programmes. Among the subjects to be undertaken by foundation students are Introduction to Computing, Personal Productivity with Technology, Critical Thinking, Fundamental of Data & Information and other relevant subjects. Students will also be exposed to various out-of-class activities.

Students successfully completed their Foundation in Computer Science programme will be able to enter into Bachelor of Computer Science programmes.

50 credit hours of subjects are being taught in three semesters. This Foundation in Computer Science programme can be completed in 1 year.


This programme is delivered at the Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Putrajaya Campus.

  • Medical Insurance: USD37.50 (RM150)/year for duration of study
  • Resource Fee (Library, Student Activity & Service): USD390 (RM780) twice a year
  • Test of English Proficiency (TEP) : USD25 (RM100) one-time payment
  • English Short Course (ESC) : USD1,166 (RM4,664)/semester.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

O-Level

  • Pass O-Level from institution recognised by Government of Malaysia with minimum credit (grade C) in 5 subjects inclusive Bahasa Inggeris, Mathematics, Physics or Add Maths and Pass in Chemistry (min. grade E).

IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education)
Pass IGCSE from institution recognised by Government of Malaysia with minimum credit (grade C) in 5 subjects inclusive Bahasa Inggeris, Mathematics.


ENGLISH REQUIREMENTS

For International Students:

International students are required to have one of the English proficiency score stated below to enrol in UNITEN. Foundation students who do not fulfill this English requirement are required to sit for the Test of English Proficiency (TEP) before they could enroll in the English Short Course (ESC).

  • MUET – Malaysia University English Test
    Achieve Band 3
  • IELTS – International English Language Testing System
    Achieve 5.0
  • TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language
    Achieve 500 (TOEFL) or 42 (TOEFL Internet Based Test)

CAREER PROSPECT

Students successfully completed their Foundation in Computer Science programme are expected to pursuit their study in Bachelor of Computer Science programmes.
